Coronavirus COVID-19 Testing Locations in NYC

Getting Tested for COVID-19 in NYC

There are two main tests for COVID-19, the PCR test and the antibody test. The PCR test detects current COVID-19 infection while the antibody test detects past exposure to the virus by conducting a nasal swab. For more information on the differences between the antibody and PCR test and what test is best for you, see our article: Coronavirus Blood Test (Antibody) Vs. Swab Test (PCR) Vs. Saliva Test - Differences & Which One Is Best? You can expect to get your PCR test results back within a few days.

The cost of COVID-19 testing depends on several factors, including whether you are insured, where you live, the severity of your symptoms, and what type of facility you go to. See our article for a breakdown of COVID-19 testing costs based on these factors.

In this article, you will find a comprehensive list of PCR COVID testing sites in New York City, adapted from Castlight COVID-19 Test Site Finder. Before getting a test, make sure to call the number listed to find out if an appointment is needed and wear a mask to your appointment.

Note: COVID-19 test may yield a false negative result depending on when testing is done. It is ideal to get tested 3-4 days after symptom onset or ~8 days after exposure. Even if you test negative, it is important to continue social distancing and isolate yourself if you have symptoms. A negative test does not exempt you from wearing a mask in public places where social distancing is not feasible. Testing locations are broken down into clinics, drive-thru, emergency rooms, hospitals, mobile testing, physician offices, urgent care facilities, and walk-in only locations.
