One Medical is a healthcare company owned by Amazon that offers primary-care services nationwide. After paying an annual membership fee of $199, you can access additional services such as urgent doctor visits.

Without insurance, you can expect to pay $175 for your initial doctor visit; if you are an established patient, each subsequent visit will be $125. Excluding the membership fee, these services range from $100 - $225 without insurance, according to a One Medical representative

How Much Does an Urgent One Medical Visit Cost?

According to a One Medical representative from the Membership Advisor Team, an average urgent visit to a One Medical office ranges from $100 - $225 if a patient pays without insurance. If you are not part of an insurance plan, your first One Medical doctor visit is $175, and subsequent visits are $125 each.

The One Medical representative detailed cost estimates for specific services and procedures that are typically performed during an urgent doctor visit:

How is One Medical Different from Urgent Care?

While One Medical is not an urgent care center, its offices offer extended services for urgent needs. One Medical’s goal is to eliminate a costly emergency or emergency care trip by connecting you to a primary care physician to treat your urgent needs. As the Journal of Urgent Care Medicine echoes, putting doctors’ offices at the forefront of urgent medicine allows for more affordable and accessible care.

One Medical has physician offices nationwide, but specific offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York have extended office hours for urgent visits. This allows patients to book same or next-day appointments, expediting care with minimal cost. For example, the Brooklyn, New York, location is open seven days a week until 9 PM. Hours will vary by office location.

What Services Does One Medical Offer?

Although not officially an urgent care, One Medical offices offer similar services to traditional urgent cares like CityMD. According to their website, some of the services they offer include:

  • Allergies
  • Chest discomfort
  • Colds, flu, and COVID-19
  • Coughs
  • Cuts, scrapes, and minor injuries
  • Headaches
  • Panic attacks
  • Respiratory infections
  • Sexually transmitted infections
  • Skin rashes, moles, and lesions
  • Sprains
  • Sports injuries
  • Upset stomach
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Vomiting
  • Yeast infection

One Medical can deliver fast lab results because each office has a private, on-site laboratory to receive samples. These labs have different hours from their One Medical office counterparts and typically close earlier than the offices. These labs are also limited because they do not offer X-rays, ultrasounds, or other imaging services. Instead, patients are referred to third-party centers to receive these services.

One Medical member and Twitter user, Jacob, states that their One Medical visit took 20 - 30 minutes. This brief visit also included having their blood work performed. The length of visits will vary by location and services performed.

COVID Services

A common reason you may visit a traditional urgent care center is to receive a COVID test. One Medical offices also provide COVID services for members. You can book an appointment for a COVID PCR test or Rapid Antigen test.

According to Twitter user @NickLamourex_ discussing COVID-19 tests, the turnaround time for COVID tests is three business days. This will also vary based on your location and what kind of COVID test is performed.

If you would like to discuss your COVID symptoms further with a provider, you can choose to make an appointment for “COVID-19 Symptoms Consult and Testing”. This 30-minute in-person appointment allows you to receive a COVID test, discuss your symptoms with a provider, and create a treatment plan to resolve your symptoms.

You can also receive COVID-19 vaccines at select locations. If you are not a One Medical member, you can sign up for a One Medical temporary membership to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, book an appointment through One Medical, and access virtual care. This allows you to receive the full COVID vaccine schedule through One Medical.

According to the COVID information on the One Medical website, signing up for the COVID-19 vaccination or the temporary membership is free. If you are covered by insurance, One Medical will submit a claim to your insurance. If you do not have insurance, you will typically have no costs associated with receiving a vaccine. You must only provide a state ID so One Medical can submit a claim to the Health Resources and Services Administration.

STD Screening and LGBT Services

Another popular reason for seeking an urgent doctor’s visit is STD screening. If you are sexually active, have symptoms of an STD, have had unprotected sex, or want to be more informed about your sexual health, you can visit One Medical for further screening

STD tests may be performed through blood work, a urinalysis, or a swab of the area. As detailed above, blood work can cost an average of $200 or $100 per individual STI test.

In addition, One Medical boasts a variety of LGBTQIA+ services for patients and the unique health concerns experienced by this community. Same-day appointments and 24/7 services are available for sexual, reproductive, and mental health needs. Another One Medical member, Tucker Cholvin, attests to One Medical’s LGBT+ services and inclusivity.

According to their website, LGBT+ patients can benefit from some of the following One Medical services:

  • Chronic conditions
  • Family planning education and guidance
  • Hormone therapy
  • PrEP
  • Illnesses and injuries
  • Mental health
  • Pain management
  • Preventive care
  • Referrals for gender-affirming surgical care
